ahmon
About to build a small home render farm. I have just built one render node and before build more I would like to know: Will there be a noticeable decrease in render times using a 1000Mbps (Gigabit)LAN setup over the standard 100mbps I am using now? I ask this because I did a test rendering with my workstation consisting of 4 cores and the time was 6:48 when I added the render node to it, total of 6 cores, the time went down to 5:39. That decrease of 1 minute for every 7 minutes of render time looks ok to me and with the additions of a few more nodes, the projects that would have taken an hour or very much more will go down quite far. So I don't want to waste the money on changing my network and increasing the price of the render nodes (even though they will only cost about $150 each) if the time decrease is not going to be noticeable. Would you?
Chasteen
The lager your scenes the more of an impact a gigbit LAN will have on lowering your render times. If you distribute rendering an image that takes an hour to render then the gigbit LAN will have almost no impact.
ahmon
Thank you. I will upgrade the LAN much later.
