DWG to 3DS Max problem

Hi!

I'm having a problem exporting and importing files from autocad to 3ds max. The file imports fine, but the spline that looked nice and smooth in autocad turns out jagged in 3ds max. Also, some of the points seem to be out of place compared to autocad. I turn on smooth when importing, but that doesn't help anything.

What am I doing wrong?

If your not already import as a legacy DWG

I'm having a similar problem but with cylinders (pillars) created in AutoCAD. They look smooth in Autocad but when they get imported to 3ds Max they are full of facets. I've had this problem before with other curved surfaces created in CAD when importing to MAX and never really been able to solve it and I haven't had much luck on google either.

Hi Tiago,

you could avoid this problem by modelling the cylinders in Max and just using AutoCAD for the initial locations of the circles that make up the cylinders. Then when you extrude them in Max - you can specify the number of subdivisions to make them look smooth in Max

hope it helps

When I have this kind of problem creating curved polylines in AutoCAD I change the SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB2 parameters to something larger than the default (6) to something like (32). Usually fixes the problem. Only thing is that you have to rebuild the polyline after changing the parameters, AutoCAD does not update the polyline for you.
