proces2
Does anyone have a good technique for creating subtle blurred reflections? I am looking to create a material that can replicate the reflections of a honed finish stone floor or a wood floor with a satin finish - accurate reflections, but not crystal clear like a default raytrace map reflection. I am using Viz4 without any rendering or GI plug-ins. sean
ingo
Just add a small bump mapping to the floor. ingo
proces2
i have never gotten that method to achieve the kind of finish i am looking for. here's a quick example of what i am looking to get: http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=reflect-test.jpg The reflection blurs more as it moves away from the object. The reflection on a dark terrazo floor for example. The only way i have achieved this is to use the Raytrace Map with the Multiresolution Adaptive Antialiaser with the min and max rays set way up. but, this map takes FOREVER to render. sean
Christopher Nichols
What you are looking for is to use the "defocus" setting... this is how you do it. - Use a raytrace material (or map) the way you normally do. - Go to the "Raytraced Reflection and Refraction Anti-Aliasing" section. Turn it on - Overwrite the default and turn on "Multiresolution Adaptive Anti-Aliaser" - click on the "..." for more options. - Use the "Blur / Defocus" settings for more on those settings, check the help file WARNING!!! Render times go WAY UP... A LOT!!!! That is why I switched to Vray... it makes blurry reflections usable.
proces2
so my fears are confirmed. those are the settings that i would use. i was hoping there was a short cut to get the same effect without the MASSIVE consequences in rendering time. guess not.
