archFX
Does anyone know where I can get a downloadable demo version of Viz4? I am self learning Viz at work and would like to practice at home in the evenings and run some tutorials and such... it takes up a lot of time at the office. Any help would be great
abicalho
There's no Downloadable demo of VIZ 4. Just grab the CD from work and install it at home. It will work for 30 days without authorization, just like a demo. Alexander
archFX
cool Thanks, I'll give it a try tonight. Would be nice if they had a seperate demo though! Have a good one

stefkeB
By the way, install the demo with serial 000-0000000 (don't know for sure about the count of zeroes, as the CD is at home). Then there is no technical difference between installing a demo from your commercial copy and installing a demo that you can get from a reseller. You can also install the demo with the serial from work and use the portable license utility to transfer one license to the workstation at home so you can legally use a fully registered version at home. That is, if the work copy is not a networked-version. And do not forget to export the license back to the workstation at work before you return to your office, or you'll no longer be able to run the copy at work. --- It was more convenient to just transfer a hardware-lock like with VIZr3 IMHO. archFX
Thanks for the tip on portable liscense utility. I will give that a try. BTW, I tried to install the demo using the 000-0000's as the serial number. Installed fine, but when I ran it, I got a message saying that the software had expired. Not sure why or how long we have had the software here (I have only been working here for 6 months.) We just recently reinstalled Viz onto a new machine at the office. So... I will see if I can get the portable liscense utility to work... it would be real nice to use at home... honestly have more time to learn there. Have to put time on specific projects at work!... darn it all!
stefkeB
If the software is expired, it can mean that it has been installed previously, or you have an older VIZ4 version (where Service Pack 2 has not been applied). I had a similar problem. After installing SP2 the internal expiration date is moved, but in my case, I had to re-register anyway. Don't know if this will happen with your trial version as well. But do read the chapter on the Portable License Utility. It is meant for such occasions.
archFX
Thanks everyone... got it working! The portable liscense utility is a great feature. Although I agree that it would be easier with a hardware lock. Oh well... at least I can get some extra stuff done at home and break the learning curve! Thanks again. BTW, I just bought "Mastering Autodesk Viz4" by Omura. It explains the process for transfering very clearly. Nice manual for Viz. Off to modeling... See ya.
