Matt Sugden
Hi, just a quick inquiry. I have recently added an additional node to my setup, equaling 5 workstations in total, (or should I say 1 main workstation and four render donkeys). I am starting to experience networking access and permission problems, and I'm thinking this might be to do with the fact that all my pcs are 'xp home'. I have recently purchased a copy of XP pro, does anyone out there know if installing this on my main manager workstation (the one where all my files accessed and shared) should fix this problem, allowing more connections to this main pc, or am I going to have to run to the expense and pain of installing xp pro on all my nodes as well, to benefit from xp pro's better networking capabilties? I'm not looking for best practice here, just a work around so I can use all 10 of my CPUs. Oh I forgot to mention, I am also connecting to this network with my laptop, and having just read up about xp home, it seems 5 is the maximum no. of connections. so I guess my question is, will putting xp pro on my main PC solve this issue? Cheers. Matt
Chad Warner
I think xp pro limits you to 10 connections. If you want to go higher than that, you'll need server software.
