Simple Tree
With the addition of color, shadow and texture, your project comes to life. Renderings give buildings depth and a project personality. They enable you to put your vision on paper for others to see and, as they say, “A picture is worth 1,000 words.”

Macpod
Why do commercial renders all look over saturated and flat? Is it because you guys are trying to make these look 'hand drawn'. thats lame dude. 3D rendering is a new medium and have it's own artistic merits. Probably could have chosen better looking couches....

IC
All commercial renders are over saturated and flat?!? I didn't notice this thread had "please post your irrelevant and slightly offensive-even verging on the ignorant-thoughts here" at the top. Nice one macpod. You seem like an all round good egg. Macpod
The above was directly aimed at the original poster. He's rendering are typical of those mediocre by-the-book rendering firms that produce junk. Sorry, but that is just my opinion from having seen what is around. I had a look at IC's web page and those renderings were awesome. That is what i meant by 3d rendering is it's own art form and people shouldn't make it look like something that is hand rendered.........or a photograph for that matter. Just like photography. the 3D render can be manipulated to not just imitate life but show it the way the artist want it to be seen. I'm not going to apologize for my opinion. Macpod
again. Im sorry if i offended anyone by using the word 'commmercial' instead of being more specific. But I hate seeing stuff that is obviously done without passion or any desire to 'create'. I feel bad for the poor chap in the firm who has to do that everyday instead of being allowed to take the art form and making it his own.

STRAT
some of us strive for 3d renderings to look hand drawn or photo real. it's just another form of expression which is as valid and artistically important as your favourite creative methods. why feel bad for the 'poor chap'? perhaps he really enjoys it? i strive for photorealism most of the time. i'll usually opt for photorealism techniques over the more 'artistic' methods. is this a crime? does it make my work any less artistic or unimportant? the end goal is to satisfy both yourself and your client. i'm sure he does. i certainly do. Thanks for the kind words about my gallery but there are tons of people here much more talented than me and 95% of them probably fall into the category you've just mentioned. There are a lot of very good people churning out ordinary stuff in order to make a living. It's what the markets (and our mortgage providers) demand. shaneis
@Macpod, while you're on a roll, could you tell us all what is Art and what isn't. It's been a subject of debate for a few thousand years now, and I'm figuring you could clear it up for all of us!
