Raffaello.S.
Hello, i've upgraded my memory from 2gb to 4gb, my mobo is a Tyan K8W with two 246 opterons, the bios is ok and it sees 4gb, but the first time i started windows there was a problem, windows showed 2.3gb, i've restarted windows and then in the "windows is starting.." screen reported an error, and that was the end, now every time i boot windows halts in the welcome screen. I even removed the new memories but nothing changes. Do you have any clues?...
AFK_Matrix
Unfortunately the 32bit operating system does not support 4gb of ram it will only recognise 3gb of ram. If you want to use all of the 4gb you will have to either get XP 64bit or Vista 64bit.
manta
Try resetting the bios...

manta
You need to upgrade to windows X64...to use that much ram...otherwise it just sits there unused...
shaneis
Here's a "how-to" for the /3GB sswitch... http://searchwincomputing.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid68_gci1108831,00.html All the best. S.
Hazdaz
You can do the 3GB switch like was posted above, but in all honesty if you are sticking with XP 32-bit, going from 2GBs to 4Gbs is a completely pointless upgrade in my book.

olbo
Hey Raffaello, watch out, some "older" chips do NOT support "full speed" if all RAM slots are used. I had that problem with my old PC and had to change the RAM from 400 to 333 Mhz. Just a thought, maybe it's the same issue with your PC. But I have no clue about the opterons and there memory controller. ;o)) take care Oleg
