sstamfb
Hi all, My computer has 3 gb ram and 50 gb free hard disc space. When i try to render a scene, which needs more memory than 1,6 gb, a message appears saying "there isn't enough memory for the raytracer to build its acceleration data structures", or "cannot allocate memory, reduce faces".What should i do? probably 3dsmax is not using the maximum amount of the existing ram. thanks
dagor
do you use scanline or mental ray rendering? try to reduse textures, because textures take memory, or use bitmap bager if you use hight-resolution bitmaps. use instances instead copy, it save mamory. try to render it without max GUI, i mean render it in command prom or backburner. ITryMyBest
Do everything Dagor said, especially look at your map sizes and instanced geometry. You may also want to check the shadow types and samples on your lights. Some lights take more RAM than others. Also, if you are on a 32-bit machine, windows limits the amount of RAM you can use for an application. Look up 3GB Switch on Google, this will allow you to use all you RAM. If you are on a 64-bit machine, this won't be an issue.
amer abidi
Indeed, as Calvin said, the /3GB switch option will solve your problem and allow windows to allocate more RAM for it's applications.
