bmcgonigle
I'm having an issue with some glass reflectance. As you can see below where there are several surfaces with the glass material assigned overlapped they darken to a grey. The glass surfaces are made out of boxs with 1/16" thickness and assigned the material. This is a stage/studio type of setup so I'm thinking the environment color is whats coming through but seeing as its in only that small area I was hoping there was a means of changing the reflectance bounce of the material to fix the issue. Any idea?
alfienoakes
what are your environment settings for reflection and refraction.? Are you using the overide max check box?
Fernando Lino
it could be IOR and/or depth refraction
bmcgonigle
Andy, thanks for your help. I'm hoping your looking for these settings from the glass material? (I'm still very green to VRay) They are as follows
dagor
please check it there is only one glass in the trouble place. may ne second glass in subobject...
bmcgonigle
There are actually 2 pieces of glass, one on each side of the frame. So within that red square there are 4 pieces of glass overlapping each other. The pieces of glass are made of box elements with 1/16" thickness to them (so i guess technically we are talking about 8 actual glass faces)
ameo
Increase the max depth value in reflection and refraction.
bmcgonigle
100 internet points to you ameo! I made the recommended change and my reflectance issue is gone. Thanks very much!

It looks good, but showing double glazing on frames like that is overkill.. Could save you time and stress. At least you know what max depth does now thou. bmcgonigle
Yea, that would be great but the model is generated by a cad program in a "true to life" manor so alot of the more irrational bits are included as well (ie. hidden brackets, etc) but the glass panels weren't included for some reason. I redid the glass myself and hind sight being 20/20 I'll surely use single planes for glass in the future. But the knowledge I've gained is worth the mistakes
