Jeff Mottle
Discussions in this thread: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/26977-max-2008-autodesk-claim-performance-enhancements.html prompted a suggestion to gather a list of features and enhancements, stability improvements etc that you would like to see in future versions of max. In essence your wish list. So, we are going to try to solicit as large of a list as possible here. Once we get sufficient feedback, I will compile the list and allow the community to rate the features most important to them. I will then take this information to Autodesk and present it to the proper channels, to ensure the most important issues in our community are heard. To post your suggestion you must use the following format. Copy and Paste to your post and fill in the relevant information. Please separate each wish list item to a new thread within the Autodesk 3ds max Wish list forum. ---------------------------------------------------------------- SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST ---------------------------------------------------------------- A short title for your suggestion. (This should also be the name of your new thread) --------------------------------------------------------------- DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST --------------------------------------------------------------- This should include a detailed description of request. Include screen shots, methods to replicate the problem if applicable, and any relevant information about the request. --------------------------------------------------------------- WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU --------------------------------------------------------------- A short description of why your request is important and how it does or would affect your workflow. DO NOT POST WISH LIST ITEMS TO THIS THREAD. POST A NEW THREAD TO THIS FORUM.

Brian Smith
I've seen a lot of wish lists but their biggets problem as i see it is that they arent organized into a powerful document. If CGA can get the endorsement of several thousand members and a document is presented to them in a well written manner, then i for believe it totally can help. But only if enough people are involved. I think autodesk would be foolish to ignore such a well thought out wish list that clearly took some time and effort to develop. dagor
it must be realy unbeliveble amount of member in the list! it also greate management work of creating this docs. i think founders of big CG portal must communicate of this list and promote this idea over their portal! there are too much money in the industry and it not in financial advantageous for autodesk to make this fix. in the best situation autodesk make several fix from this list but not all. "we have not time, we have not resources. we don`t know how to do it... we have more important fix" - they usualy say. it`s all about money. max and maya are favour appliaction. it will be sell with small fixes anyway )))
DavidR
I agree that a list can work. I think the problem with the "wish list" section of the Area is that lots of people only look at new posts, so some iseas don't get the support they deserve. A list like this essentially does just that, so good idea, Jeff.
dagor
does someone of you who are agree post own suggestion about fix or bug )) ? we all agree but do nothing. it`s second problem.
Brian Cassil
I agree that if this wishlist can be put into a document form of things that we as the architectural visualization community collectively request (demand?) than they might hear us. I think this is a great idea Jeff. But then again this is why you get the big bucks, right? I will say that my biggest gripe is with the false claims that Autodesk makes rather than with anything that is specifically lacking in Max or any other program. Can we add "stop making claims that your software can't backup" to the wishlist somehow?
Derek Forreal
i think this is a good idea. if the request comes from a recognised authority it has a much higher chance of succeeding. i don't understand how we go about it though (sorry if this is obvious) - do we create a new post for each wish or post a reply on this thread? Derek Forreal
just read the first post again... to be clear - each wish should be a seperate post with the same subject (Re: Autodesk 3ds max Wish List) - right?

Nils Norgren
That was a surreal moment, Jeff, I went back to the top and copied the titles you have (I will try to follow directions, eventually) and scrolled down to my post, which appeared as i had written it, and clicked on the "edit" and it popped up as you must have been editing at the same moment (or just before). I thought the server had become intelligent and "Knew" what I was about to do. a strange moment... -Nils
Jeff Mottle
I've slightly changed the format. I just realized that this is goign to get out of control pretty quickly so I created a new forum for wish list items. You now just post your item in your own thread. Spooner04
I hope this thread stays around even after the wish list is submitted. It's already proven resourceful in seeing the workarounds and solutions to many of the operator based problems in max, my own included.
sergo
Should I wait for poll round or should I post my attitude to the wish-post in it's thread, like - "ok, I'm supporting this wish" or "No it's ridiculous, you can do it by x way "? Elliot
PRECISION During the last few years I have drifted to photography. My partners convinced me that it was easier to manufacture a real product and then take photos rather than drawing it up on an imprecise program. LONGEVITY A program that will not require constant up-dates to a new version already obsolete when it comes to the market. COMPATIBILITY I am still doing 3D but not in Viz or Max, mainly on SolidWORKS. The I bring the images to Viz to render them because Viz has better rendering capabilities. This conversions from SW to Viz are very tedious and sometimes complex. Over the years I have developed several workflows to bring them to VIZ in spite of all the marketing efforts of these companies to allow integration of the different import filters. There is a fellow in India that has develop a plugin for MAX that will allow the importation of SW, Inventor and other similar programs into VIZ or MAX. During the last 12 years that I have been doing 3D the industry has come a long way. But, this is still half an artistic endeavor. My need for precise images pushed me to 70% SolidWORKS. Hazdaz
As a Dreamer I love the idea of a Wish List, but the Realist in me tells me that it's a complete and utter waste of time. If this was almost any other software company, I would have some shred of hope that they might listen and actually improve their software accordingly... with AutoDesk? Not so much. Their goal is to gobble-up the competition, and not gain new sales through better software. 90% of the stuff that people will come up with, has been an issue with MAX for many years now - with little improvement. Maybe I am in an especially cynical mood tonight, but I see a lot of hard work and thoughtful comments posted up by some of you guys and I just see them falling onto deaf ears. mfeldman
Window ON, all else OFF Description: It would be nice to be able to window an area, in wireframe, and have all else turned off, where objects are not included in the frame. Full objects left on, with overlaps out of the frame. Why: In large site models, where multiple views are taken, it would often be helpful to be able to remove all non-viewed items from the rendered objects, to improve processing time. Once a camera is selected, the frame could be windowed, and all othe objects turned off for the rendered frame. Ideally, this would be possible to automate, so that animations would also benefit on a frame by frame basis. MEF
pfbreton
Hi! if this has not been noticed yet, here is what we have done at autodesk to help formalizing the various lists on the web: http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/ken/announcing_3ds_max_community_wishlist Cheers!
