Lofting cornince problem (Max 9 SP2)

Max 9 SP2

Okay... I'm working on modeling a room and I'm trying to loft the cornice and it's not allowing me.

I went to my top view and created a rectangular spline with the line object.

It's contiguous, with no gaps and I closed it when I made it.

I named it Path01

I then made a shape (a triangle) in the front view port and named it Shape01

I picked the Path01, went Create -> Compound -> Loft -> Pick Shape

and selected the Shape01 from the viewport.

It worked. No brainer.

I then went to my top viewport, made a rectangular shape - but it contains gaps - and it ends where it started (but obviously isn't closed - I wasn't even prompted, I'm guessing because of the gaps). When I made the gaps, I unticked New Spline, so the additional segments became part of the first segment.

I named this Path02

I then went to my front view port and made another shape - a rectangle with a fillet on one of the verts - and closed it and named it Shape02

All good so far....

I select Path02 and go Create -> Compound -> Loft -> and....

THERE IS NO OPTION TO GET SHAPE!!!!!!

I'm guessing the gaps is what is confusing the lofting process.

Can anyone confirm this, and (hopefully) offer a solution?

I've converted the loft to an Editable Poly, moved the verts to line up with the openings of the doors, and then selected all the faces in the door openings, deleted, then capped the ends.

It *works*, but if I want to go backwards and change the shape of the loft, I've now lost that option.

Cheers

did you try bevel profil modifier?

it`s realy good for cornice.

i prefer use polymodeing and bevel profil than loft. after lofting there are unnecesry polygons.

The tutorial I'm doing uses Lofts, and the whole Spline thing just fits into ArchiViz so well.

Like I said, I converted the splines into Editable Polys, but then I lost my ability to easily (like, in a couple of mouse clicks and just a few seconds) edit the shape of the cornices.

That's expected behaviour because of the gaps. Have you tried the sweep modifier instead?

Sweep modifier?!? Wow... Never actually heard of it or used it! Gotta check it out!

:o

THAT is INCREDIBLE!!! It's like a loft, and only better!!!

Thans so VERY MUCH!
