BrianKitts
---------------------------------------------------------------- SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST ---------------------------------------------------------------- The frame buffer should have the ability to flip back through previous renders. --------------------------------------------------------------- DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST --------------------------------------------------------------- I heard mention that lightwave once had an option that it stored all of your renderings in a working session within it's frame buffer. Then you could step back through your history to compare/reference previous working renderings. It would be a temporary memory that you could dump to reclaim resources, and of course you would lose it when closing the file, but during an active session your history could be cached. --------------------------------------------------------------- WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU --------------------------------------------------------------- This could be useful when adjusting lighting and texture for comparing the quality/results. Basically you would have the ability to comparing renders within max instead of having to save out images to be flipped through in an external application. Justin Hunt
I second this one, I have seen it done through the Ram player but havn't been able to work it out. Having used lightwave, its a great way to keep trak of the changes made JHV
theqball
Correct, RAM Player can do an A/B comparison for two images. Just hit the green teapot for either the A or B channel after you render a test.
demo38
That is a nice feature in Lightwave. Would be a definite bonus to use this in Max as well. Sometimes A B just isn't enough when you're tweaking multiple objects in a scene.
Matt Clementson
As an extension of this wish - it would be nice if the VFB had tabs for multiple renders, then the clone button could simply make a new tab rather than an entirely new window. Ray Server
How about being able to select two tabs at once to enable a horiz/vert split view mode as in the ram player.
Ricardo Eloy
Maybe something as XSI's VFB, where you actually get to drag a line between the new and the old render, so you can compare both quickly.
MikeGentile
attached you'll find a screen cap of our "render history" this saves the last rendered images to a managed local directory using callbacks it has options for notes open in explorer delete gamma correction compare and open in external programs like photoshop
Ricardo Eloy
Interesting. Is it commercial?
MikeGentile
not commercial at the moment, but we're looking into seeing what tools we may be giving away. this might be one of them
jucaro
Also with the 'Historical Frame Buffer', it would also be nice if the render settings of that particular frame buffer are also saved. Of course, including the state of the materials would also be nice but i guess thats asking too much...or just being too damn lazy

Koper
Also with the 'Historical Frame Buffer', it would also be nice if the render settings of that particular frame buffer are also saved. Of course, including the state of the materials would also be nice but i guess thats asking too much...or just being too damn lazy can be done already (not the FB idea) but the render/material settings, that is if you are VERY organized. just before rendering, save the scene state (right click in viewport), name the scene state the same to what the render is gonna be called after rendering, then render and save the render (to what the scene state was called), then change anything and save the scene state with an increment in the name, render again, save again, change..... and so on NOOObody is that organized or have time to do that, so yes, please autodesk, the functionality is there, just make it happen, tabs for every cached render, tools to view the different versions and back buttons to the particular versions of renders.
