Hey good ppl,

I am fairly new at using Viz and have found out that troubleshooting is the best way to learn.

There is a sense of satisfaction in solving seemingly unsourmountable problems.

However, I have reached an impasse and need you guys'help.

PROBLEM 1

When I open my Material Editor, I click on the button "Get Material" and NOTHING happens.

Even when I go to "Rendering" and click on "Material/Map Browser", still nothing.

The only way to get the material/map browser open is to click the diffuse color map. It's driving me nuts. Any idea why this is happening?

PROBLEM 2

This has to do with the glass material.

I am following George Omura's "Mastering Autodesk Viz 4" and he talks about going into the material/map browser and opening the material library, selecting "Raytraced_01" from the list and open.

The material "Glass_Clear" should be there.

Only it's NOT. There is a bunch of Falloff mat's.

DO you know if this was st that could be found in an older version?

How can I create a realistic looking glass for window, furn.?

I have the johnseagull.com site in my list, any other suggestion...

that pesky glass...

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!!

before i used vnc viewer to see my servers (for rendering), i would unhook the secondary monitor from my main system and this would ALWAYS happen.

Also, as a general note, I'm not sure about viz but max asks that you have atleast a 1200x1000 resolution for these types of problems (missing icons, etc)

I am so stoked- Problem 2 solved!

Once I could access the4 "Get Material" dialog box, all the raytraced materials appeared in the material library, including "Glass_Clear". I was only getting falloff maps before when I could get the pop-up open from the diffuse map button. Of course now I understand only the maps where showing, and not the mat's.

Thanks again wolf:)
