Clara
Hey good ppl, I am fairly new at using Viz and have found out that troubleshooting is the best way to learn. There is a sense of satisfaction in solving seemingly unsourmountable problems. However, I have reached an impasse and need you guys'help. PROBLEM 1 When I open my Material Editor, I click on the button "Get Material" and NOTHING happens. Even when I go to "Rendering" and click on "Material/Map Browser", still nothing. The only way to get the material/map browser open is to click the diffuse color map. It's driving me nuts. Any idea why this is happening? PROBLEM 2 This has to do with the glass material. I am following George Omura's "Mastering Autodesk Viz 4" and he talks about going into the material/map browser and opening the material library, selecting "Raytraced_01" from the list and open. The material "Glass_Clear" should be there. Only it's NOT. There is a bunch of Falloff mat's. DO you know if this was st that could be found in an older version? How can I create a realistic looking glass for window, furn.? I have the johnseagull.com site in my list, any other suggestion... that pesky glass... THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!! miti
Wolf
i think i may have an answer for problem 1 sometimes you can move a floater off screen, so... try changing your resolution to something like 1600x1200 and see if your mat browser reappears. Clara
THANK YOU WOLF!!!! It worked with changing the resolution. Of all things... I would have NEVER thought about it. Thanks again. Good Karma to you:)
schmoron13
before i used vnc viewer to see my servers (for rendering), i would unhook the secondary monitor from my main system and this would ALWAYS happen. Also, as a general note, I'm not sure about viz but max asks that you have atleast a 1200x1000 resolution for these types of problems (missing icons, etc)
Clara
I am so stoked- Problem 2 solved! Once I could access the4 "Get Material" dialog box, all the raytraced materials appeared in the material library, including "Glass_Clear". I was only getting falloff maps before when I could get the pop-up open from the diffuse map button. Of course now I understand only the maps where showing, and not the mat's. Thanks again wolf:)
