Tommy L
Downloaded the trial version. Mental Ray seems very much improved, but I havnt used it for so long its taking me a while to work stuff out. Ive attached my progress I have a couple of questions and Im sure the list will grow: 1: I cant get the sky to show in the background of a render (Daylight system with IES sky and MR Sun using mr photographic exposure control) it just renders black. 2: I dont know whether I need the color correct plugin when working in linear work-flow, also, I dont know whether I should tick the 'affect material editor in the gamma settings dialogue. 3: Wheres the autoback? Lester_Masterson
Sorry I can't help you with 1 or 2, but the Autoback's (assuming you did the standard install) are either in your My Documents folder, or under Program Files/Autodesk/ Good Luck
Tommy L
Thanks, ALSO: I get about 6 or 7 error messages on opening the program. Missing this an thats and whatnot. And some of the dropdowns flag errors then work again. General glitches that dont cause any problems but look a little messy. Im guessing this is because Im working on xp 64. Anyone else? voltaire_ira
autoback is located in your "my documents\3ds Max\autoback", that is if you made a standard install. Im also working on a x64 system. so far no problems. Installation was clean. Could be that cuz you are using a demo so the usual external files were not included in the installation. Justin Hunt
1: I cant get the sky to show in the background of a render (Daylight system with IES sky and MR Sun using mr photographic exposure control) it just renders black. Have you loaded the mrPhysicalSky shader into the environment slot? If you are using a bitmap as the backdrop then you may need to crank up the "output" value of that map. 2: I dont know whether I need the color correct plugin when working in linear work-flow, also, I dont know whether I should tick the 'affect material editor in the gamma settings dialogue. You dont really need the colour correct plugin (some us it I dont) and yes do tick the "affect material editor" although it does wash out the previews. As to the missing things, check the plugin manager to see if everything is loading, you may need to reinstall by the sound of things JHV
Francisco Penaloza
If you are using the Mr Sun, it is strongly recommended to use Mr sky, the IES sky will not show, for sure. When you setup your gamma, in the same window you have to check, apply gamma for input and output maps. any ways you will have to fix the gamma output when you save your image, I don't know why. About the missing plug ins, yes it is recommended to re-install your software. I'm using Max 64 in XP 64 with not major problems.
