SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST

----------------------------------------------------------------

Max lacks the ability to rotate an object about the pivot point to align a point on the rotating object with a specific point in space.

---------------------------------------------------------------

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST

---------------------------------------------------------------

This function should work similar to reference rotation in autocad such that it would be easier to align object on an angle as compared to existing objects in space. It could either be accomplished by a three click method of setting a pivot and a reference point and a final alignment...... or a two click using the existing pivot point for rotation

---------------------------------------------------------------

WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU

---------------------------------------------------------------

max has no capability (AFAIK) to rotate objects into perfect alignment with existing objects. This would be extremely helpful when working with odd angles in architectural designs.

if i have understood your wish, i have already requested it as part of an earlier wish (CAD functionality). as a workaround for 3 point rotate, i have found that the following method works a treat:

use voltaire_ira's method when aligning faces. if you need to align somethin more specific, you can use a tip i picked up in the autodesk 'area' forum. if you need to align an object or a pivot exactly to another object and don't know the angle of rotation - use the 'tape measure' tool in 3d, and 3d snap the tape to pretty much anything you want (spline, any edge of an object etc). now you can use the tape's pivot to align to, or you can pick the tape's pivot to move an object along that axis. great for roof tiles etc.
