SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST

----------------------------------------------------------------

A Purge Function

---------------------------------------------------------------

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST

---------------------------------------------------------------

A feature that would clear a max file of all unused data, materials, layers, etc.

The same thing that auto cad has.

---------------------------------------------------------------

WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU

---------------------------------------------------------------

Because it's ridiculous to keep creating a new file and then merging everything in from another file. I think that as B.I.M. software becomes more prevalent this will become more necessary as it seems Revit and autocad for Architecture models come in with a great deal of unnecessary information. And I'm not referring just to things like "A-Elec-wires" layer or something along those lines. I'm referring to all the nodes and other dingleberry, legacy garbage that can't seem to be deleted off of the geometry. Please make a purge command. Please.

Thanks for the replies. I was having issues with a model a few weeks ago. We were going through and converting MR mats to VRay and even though the files no longer had any MR mats that were being used the GC function wouldn't clear out the MR mats. And now that I think about it I've never noticed an improvement after typing in GC. And after running a search for Garbage Collector and GC in max 2008 help files I didn't get any hits.

So...... perhaps the request should read improved Garbage Collector, maybe mine is broken.

The thing I like about the purge function in CAD is that it eliminates anything that is hidden: objects, layers, geometry, etc.
