Residential using all vray physical bits..

First post for a while.

Switched over to Lele's method of using vraycolour material, and the .255 method for this, along with the Vraysun, sky and physical camera.. why not make things interesting..!

I think it looks ok so far as a white model.. I am not sure about the sky.. just seems a bit too light.

Any one with any other experiences of the above workflow, or the Vray physical bits that are revised in SP1 I would love to hear from.

Also, as I have only been commenting on other peoples lately, feel free to give me some back..:D (not much to crit yet, but at least i have posted something)

Hi Andy,

The brightness of the sky will be determined by the height of the sun and your camera settings - what are you using?

I've been using sun/sky and physical camera for a while, but not the .255 method. The sky is definately better in SP1 than before (was too dark). I find the images I get from Viz/max seem a little washed out, but once I've applied DaFaorce's "S" curve in Photoshop they look much better than I was getting with standard lights and camera.

Jeroen,

The sky is just straight into the environment slot. I was trying to keep it all as simple as possible. It is certainly lighter than previous versions. Just a bit too light as is.

Trevor,

Camera, almost straight out of the box. I am using a gamma correction of 2.2 in my colour mapping. Iso's 200, shutter 200 and 8 f'stops I think.. need to check. It seems to give the best balance.

Are you using straight Vray colours / materials? Do you work in LWF as well.. I switched to that a while a go (still fine tuning) and it does work well. Of course a bit of post can liven things up a bit. I am interested to see what people are doing now that the camera and the sun/sky work nmore predictably together in SP1.

Hi Andy,

Yes, I use Vray mats exclusively and LWF with 2.2 gamma colour mapping. I do however use a more real world set up for my camera for exteriors. Google the "Sunny 16 rule" for more info. This is of course my personal preference.

If you look on the Chaos forum you will see people using all sorts of different camera settings. I guess the great thing is there is no right or wrong settings, just what you prefer.
