WAcky
Hi all, Before i go any further with this project i need to address this issue. I dont know when it started or what i may have done to cause it but it must be fixed! If you look at the two images attached you can see alot of white splotches all over the place. I have lowered the exposure to make it more obvious. Im using final gather and for interests sake i did a render with the very high FG preset and these dots still appear. I've never tried the GI in mental ray but my very uneducated guess is that they look like a whole bunch of stray photons... (GI and caustics are turned off) All the objects in my scene are set not to receive or generate any caustics or GI. I have tried changing most settings in the renderer and Mr Sun and Sky as well as trying different materials with no avail. Any information is much appreciated. Cheers! Justin Hunt
If GI is turned Off then I would say its safe to say it isnt Photons. Are you rendering the FG to disk? If so delete it and regenerate the FG. Can you post the FG settings and the roof Material settings JHV
WAcky
Looks like it was a dud FG map. I had read/write checked but not read only. Why would MR not have been generating a new FG map? I guess my question is what prompts mr to write a fresh FG map? on deletion of the fg map it has loaded? Thanks a bunch Justin!
WAcky
ah! So if for instance, i kept the same settings and did a FG map from a few different perspectives, i would in theory be building up a 3d FG map? Or am i just dreaming? Is this a way of only having to recalculate FG points on areas that i might have changed or should i always rebuild whenever i change a material or add some geometry? Just got the links from you for the 4 training modules i bought Pretty damn excited but i gotta go out for a few hours. Damn socializing and commitments and so on... WAcky
As a general rule we never calculate FG maps until ALL geometry and materials are in place as they most definately will affect FG calculations! So what workflow do you employ to do test renders of your materials and so forth? Do you mean you dont even have FG enabled before you've finished with materials and models? Cool! be sure to drop us a feedback email. Always want to hear from customers about what works and what doesn't. Will do for sure! Thanks so much for your help. WAcky
i knew you were going to say something like "watch the modules you bought to find out" or something along those lines. lol
Justin Hunt
For those who havnt see the vidoes, get watching, for those who cant then just leave the write to file tag off until you are finished tweeking. Each time the FG will be regenerated. It is important to understand the if a saved FG sample exists than it will be skipped the next time you regenerate FG. Any new samples will be added to the file. Hence the render ever nth frame workflow for animations. JHV
