Devin Johnston
I've purchased several libraries from AXYZ, both their still models and the pre-rigged versions. My plan was to use the pre-rigged models in my animations to really give them some life but after experimenting I've discovered that it's incredibly difficult to get a significant number of them in a scene and working properly. Mainly because they have to first be scaled to the proper size, then have the mocap data attached, and moved into position all of which could take 10 minutes for each person. You can see if you need a crowd of people this would be a long process, so my question is has anyone uses a large number of these people successfully and if so how did you do it? gfa2
I think there is a crowd tool of some sort in max. I've never used it, but it's worth checking out.
BrianKitts
How long ago did you purchase the content? We just purchased their "professional bundle 1", if you use the installer off the DVD as opposed to just copying the content off the disk, there as option to select what your units are and it will only copy that content onto your disk. So I only installed the content that was scaled in inches and everything works smooth as can be..... worked great, because in the past the content I've used from them has been a pain as you mentioned. Devin Johnston
I've had them for at least a year but have never used them because of how difficult it was to work with them. How is it easier to use them now? For me one of the biggest problems was having to apply the mocap data to one of the figures, run the simulation save out the result, import the model into my scene attach the new simulation data and move it into position. They also had a tendency to snap back into the original location they were imported to once I moved them if the move wasn't done correctly. bpositive
Im also having a lot of problems using these models! Maxer: When you move them, you have to use the "Move All" function under biped in the motion panel. You have to move the BIP object! Does anyone know how to make them follow the terrain when using Motion Mixer?
Nic H
Yes they are a bastard to use! That said.....I have no character or rigging background and had alot of trouble making a useable amount of people, the metric/imperial and scaling thing took me a while to work out. i naively thought that it might be as simple as load mocap, then constrain to path and they would work....not quiet. We ended up employing a character animation guy who had no trouble at all and ended up making a library of people using the Point Cache modifier that are really easy to position and use once set up. Sorry i can't explain more but it did my head in trying to set them up properly, worth getting someone to do it for you or taking time out to learn as they are a good product just needs some basic knowledge.
