AJLynn
That's a reasonable looking combination. Don't bother with the Xeon here. The Asus MB is probably going to be better for you than the Intel, especially if you want to overclock. If you do want to overclock, get a good CPU cooler. Also, if you want one thing you can improve, get an 8800GT instead of an 8600GT.
Lhanh29
thanks AJlinn, you mean that: 1.Main board: Asus P5K. 2.CPU: Core 2 quad Q6600 3.VGA card: Nvidia 8800GT(512MB) 4.Case: Cooler master RC534 5.Power supply : power 650W cooler master. 6.Ram 2x2Gb bus 800mhz PC6400 kingmax. 7.HDD seagate ata/300 7200rpm. In my country has not the CPU Q6700 or Q6850. poor me. Thanks
AJLynn
That's okay. If you can get your hands on a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme CPU cooler and a good 120mm fan (there's a Scythe fan with fluidynamic bearing that's really good) with that B and power supply you can overclock the Q6600 way over the stock speeds of the 6700 or 6850. Lhanh29
thanks Mate. But 4.Case: Cooler master RC534 do have 1 fan 12mm already. you mean we want one more. thanks again.
AJLynn
That's a case fan. There's also a fan on the CPU cooler - some come with the fan, others you need to buy the fan separately, with that CPU cooler you need to buy the fan separately. freaker_ca
Try to get the Q6600 with G0 stepping. It's the latest version of the Q6600 chip that will help if you want to overclock. Maybe this link will help http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3066 i'm thinking of building a similar rig so i hope it works out well for ya. freaker_ca
take a look at the link i had in my last post, it shows you. the last 4 letters at the end of the manufac part#bx80562q660slacr the slacr indicates G0 stepping AJLynn, i've been finding some retailers trying to get rid of their older stock and selling the B3 stepping. some say they can't guarantee which you'll get but it doesn't hurt to ask anyway.
