alfienoakes
Having a few issues with the above. I have created an image file of the texture I want, to use as my displacement map. (see attached) But I cannot get a clean displacement using any number of methods..? (see image) I have attached my settings as well.. (see image) I am trying to create some plain tiles, and am using ADT objects, file linked in. I have had issues with linked objects, but i really dont want to redraw the roofs in Viz. Any clues or suggestions would be great.. Cheers
edgy_k
Well, I rendered the same thing as you by downlaoding your map and matching your settings and it works just fine. Strange. I suppose your base geometry is a simple clean plane ?
Nic H
Is it anything to do with having meshsmooth on top of stack? Id remodel and see if it fixes it?
edgy_k
Does the meshsmooth modifier have any effect after the vraydisplacement ? I tried putting one on top of my stack as you did and that doesn't change anything to the result.
alfienoakes
Cheers guys.. It is the meshsmooth that is causing the problems. I use that on some of the shapes, as it keeps the edges tidy. If you look at the new posts, you can see its left the one without meshsmooth with quite untidy edges compared to the one with meshsmooth... but that one works..! I will comp out the edge post I think..! Any ideas on those edges while we are here.. ?
Trevor Tizard
Hi Andy, I have also used MeshSmooth modifiers with 2D displacement, but I seem to recall using it before displacement in the stack. I've also had things like that when I've used plane mapping, sorted it with box mapping. Trev

Quite a late answer, but I think you can tweak the blur parameter of the Vraydisplament modifier, from 0.0 (sharp strong edges) to whatever you want. cheers.
