RyanSpaulding
Ok, quick displacment question. So I have this shingle map that I'm using, but in my DWG, my building is not perpendicular on the site plan, so my shingle material needed to be rotated to follow the front of the building. So, if I have to rotate the map, how do I use the VRayDisplacementMod in this instance? I see no rotation option in the VRayDisplacementMod properties panel. Should I use the displacement map w/o the modifier? I was once told not to do this in VRay. Attached is an image that may help explain.
Sawyer
The way I would handle this is to just rotate the UVW gizmo (instead of rotating the maps individually). That would take care of your rotation issues. I asked Vlado about the material based displacement at Siggraph. He said it works fine only it lacks controls. I used it once by accident and I was surprised that it worked.
RyanSpaulding
Yeah, that works a lot better. Is there a way to be more precise than using the rotate tool?
RyanSpaulding
And what is this that's going on? My displacement version added this wierd black shadow looking thing. Any ideas? 1st image is this issue I'm speaking of. 2nd image is of the displacement shingles I created from before, just for show.
Sawyer
Have you tried placing a mesh smooth mod with 0 itenerations?
RyanSpaulding
Have you tried placing a mesh smooth mod with 0 itenerations? I have. If I stack the mesh smooth mod on the top, max crashes. Any other placement of the mod and it renders the same as w/o it.
Dave Oliver
even if your roof is one object, you can align the texture to each face select the object, add edit mesh modifier, select the face, add planar uvw map, click 'normal align' - its one of the buttons midway down - and click on the face you could always re-trace your exterior walls with and editable poly to clean up extra edges that might be messing it up
