adding Mental Ray to my skillset

I'm not too familiar with the level that mental ray has been integrated into Autodesk architecture. What features does it lack? Do you think it will still be worth it to export and use it in Viz/Max because of better mental integration there?

HDRI?

Caustics?

displacement?

A&D materials?

daylight system?

real time shadow preview?

I know it's not released yet, but anyone with any info....would be glad to hear.

Thanks.

You can do a daylight system and place lights and cameras, and you have FG and maybe (I forget) photon GI, and some material settings that aren't nearly as advanced as what Max gives you. If you work in an architecture firm and you want to do some basic rendering without committing the time to use Max, it's useful. It would be more useful in Revit than ADT - Revit has a lot more material and 3D information assigned to the objects, and forces you to do a halfway decent 3D model.

Which is all that is needed for alot of the projects. Whilst the accurender images were acceptable for the early stages, we are hoping that with mr the Revit teams will be able to take the projects alot further before handing over to 3D team. Its gotten a few people quite excited in the office.

Anticipation is half the fun

LOL, if you are loyal to which ever platform make life easier but you dont want to spend the time to learn another platform, then how will you know if it will make you life easier or not?
