xueming
I heard a lot of people talking about 3ds max might have accuracy issue. Is this still an issue for new version of 3ds max? I just don't understand why this can be a problem if we use snap or numeric dimension. I really like 3ds max poly modeling tools, but accuracy is important to me. So I wonder if 3ds max can be accurately 3ds modeling tools? Thanks,
alexg
I guess it depends on how accurate do you want your model to be. Is it for visualization purposes only? or is it for Cad/Cam (moulding) ? If you only model simple primitives, then it will be ok on max. But if you need to get a precise point in a curved surface, or if you need to model a precise free-form object then you'll have a problem. Try Rhino, they have a free trial period, very powerful and accurate modelling software.
Vince Paske
Max is a single precision app, most CAD apps are double precision. You can google "double precision" for more info. If you have ever imported or linked in a cad file (in particuliar a civil file based off of GIS coordinates) and had all your straight lines look like the edge of a saw, you just experienced the limitations of single precision (which is cured by moving the drawing closer to the origin).
