RyanSpaulding
Hey guys, Kind of a random question here. Have any of you, who are not architects by trade and are w/o architectural training, designed 3d buildings for fun? I think it would be interesting to see the designs people come up with who haven't been trained.
innerdream
I'm not an architect by schooling but have 30 years in the profession, art center schooled. That said I was a designer for Walt Disney.
Ernest Burden III
I love designing. And I am not an architect, though I play one on TV. Nothing spoils a good architectural design like the compromises of having to get it built. In some circles 'paper architecture' is a slur. I prefer it. Ernest Burden III
what do you mean, are you an actor? Art prostitute, actually. There used to be a commercial (in US at least) with an actor who starts out with "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV", he then dispenses medical advice. So the 'but I play one on TV' line is a cliche, of sorts.
Tommy L
Ah, I see. Im a newcomer to the states, 18 months new, so every days a school day for me. Ill see how long it takes me to shoe-horn that one seemlessly into conversation.
Justin Hunt
Far too often I am asked to put my designers hat on because the real designers are too busy (read lazy) to do their own designing. Almost lost my job once because I did too much designing and put the project architects nose out of joint when the client prefered what I did over his. "Not happy Jan" (fellow Ozies will understand this one, it ties into the TV advert theme) JHV
Brian Cassil
I'm actually working on designing a major remodel to my own house. I thought about making a thread outlining it but reconsidered because I thought why would anyone care about my house? Anyway, it's fun, it's good exercise, but really I prefer other sorts of design. I've always thought it was interesting that architects generally consider themselves to be the only 'real' designers the world has to offer, at least the ones I know come across that way. The colour grading of the exterior render feels so 70's. I LOVE it! hehe "Not happy Jan" Everyone needs to see that ad. If you haven't seen that ad, you haven't lived! hahaha.
