Patrick Mc Ginty
We are building a large model for a architect with 600 houses... I am having a problem when dealing with different xrefs in a scene. Sometimes they tend to pick the wrong material or get mixed up with other materials from other xrefs in the scene. I have checked that the materials have different names etc, but they still seems to get mixed up. any help would be great ,thanks in advance, G
Wombatinahat
We had the same problem here the other day. And as far as we could gather it seemed to be a memory problem. For example if we hid most of the objects in the scene and saved then restarted max the objects that were previously textured wrong would be fixed. We resorted to adding more ram and that sorted us out.
Patrick Mc Ginty
Thanks Rob, We tried that but we still have the problem. We have 4 gigs on Quadcore with 6 million polys in the scene.
Mechadus
It can be a pain, but I fixed a similar problem by using the Xref Material for all of my Xref scenes... Never figured out what was causing that tho. Another option could be to make some proxy buildings if you can... Model an extremely low-poly 'Game model' version of houses that are off in the distance. Render out orthographic views of your house, and map them on to the low-rez version. Might help some -Nick
