nelpiper
Hi guys. I was reading an article from this website from the VISUALIZATIONN INSIDER called "understanding drawings" (or so) and there the author says: " the first thing what I do when I receive a floor plan or drawings from architects is throwing away the dimensions". I did not understand that. How are you going to model without the dimensions? Is there any kind of window standard dimension, door, pool, etc that we can adopt for general visualizations? Thanks. IC
I don't know the article but yes, there are metric and imperial standards for windows and doors. External openings are based on runs of brickwork. That's not to say they are always followed. I think what was maybe meant was that your models don't have to have millimetre precision (unless they are BIM models also used for production) and anyway you can't rely on the accuracy of even a cad drawing, bizzarely. When I use a drawing, I probably only need a third of the sizes the architect provides but if they are right, I stick to them as closely as I can without being too anal. gabrielaca
the article you refer to is try to say "erase" the dimension lines in order to "see" the plans and elevs, not to disregard dimensions.
chiquito
Havent read that article, but I guess that if you are going to make a model out of a plan (thet you are going to import the plan to your 3d aplication) the get rid of dimensions, just snap to lines. I do this to make plan more easy to use.
Peter M. Gruhn
We presume that the drawing was drawn correctly and at actual size. How long is that wall? Well, you could look at the dimension and say "Oh, it's 9m" or you could just snap to the end point (or extrude the polyline or whatever) and let the wall be however long the wall is. The dimension drawing items are just extra garbage like notes that get in the way of working with the model. (They may be useful, some may prefer to just freeze the layer...) NIRVANA
well , there are some standards in architectural works for example : Distance between each Floor (1st and second) is 3meter Each door should have 2.20 x 1.20 meter
