Brian Smith
found this interesting. since animated films are rendered at academy resolution (4k x 2k) and since real film is not limited in resolution, it's probably only a matter of time...maybe 10 years from now, before this is as common as regular hd is today http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/12/18/samsung-exec-hints-at-4000-x-2000-resolution-lcd-panels/
Ernest Burden III
What are the color depth possibilities with these units?
DavidR
I like it, but I'm more interested in dpi because maybe these screens will still be 96dpi 200" monsters (OK, I can't be bothered to do the math). I'm looking forward to 2-300dpi monitors, regardless of size, like the IBM T220. This is more exciting to me than octa-core, quad-SLI, etc, because I see such a huge difference between on-screen and print, and finer dot pitch will cure aliasing better than fat antialiased lines. Throw in LED backlighting, full RGB, HDR (saw Brightside demo at Siggraph in Boston -amazing), maybe switchable 2d/3d like Sharp and Zalmann (not that convincing yet), and a coating that doesn't show my kid's fingerprints, and I'm there. Hazdaz
Very interesting, but as much as higher-rez is good, I am just as interested (possibly more so) in HDR screens... ie ones that can produce images whiter than white... just like in real life.
