brightlight
---------------------------------------------------------------- SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST ---------------------------------------------------------------- Zone Isolation Tool --------------------------------------------------------------- DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST --------------------------------------------------------------- In Archicad I can use the marquee tool to quickly isolate an area in the 2d window and jump to that zone in 3d. I don't have to select objects then isolate them. I'd like to do this in max. What about drawing a zone with a 'marquee' line (dotted?) then viewing that quickly in camera or perspective mode? Of course I'd want to render my view out. Also, I would want to be able to highlight the cut line through materials with another colour or thicker line. --------------------------------------------------------------- WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU --------------------------------------------------------------- If I had this 'zone isolation' tool I could quickly select areas that I'm working on and focus on them, while ignoring irrelevant detail. Also, I could create sections through buildings which is extremely useful to do in architectural work. I realise that some of this can be done via camera clipping but the implementation is a little clumsy (slow?) for me and I never use it.
sergo
You can cut and then highlight the cut line by slice modifier to cut the objects and the section spline object to create the spline on the section array.
brightlight
Thanks Sergo - I haven't used that modifier before:) But it does not seem to be able to isolate an area. It cuts through the whole building, unless I have missed something? Once you have tried it (or seen it used) in Archicad you will definitely want it! WAcky
This is exactly what I'm after too. The section box in Revit is fantastic. Working on huge scenes can be a nightmare to navigate and being able to isolate a small part of the model would be a dream.
