moodo
what iam very missing is, if you draw e.g a spline and at the same time you pan or zoom etc. the command will abord. another example is if you would like to change the viewport in the meanwhile if a command (moving an object) is active it will also abord. in other programs like rhino or acad its such a thing no problem. i hop in future it will also no problem for 3dmax. 3dSol
this should go to the MAX wish list urgently!
Stephen Thomas
Call me cynical, but it seems to me that since Autodesk publish both AutoCAD and 3ds max it wouldn't be much trouble for them to integrate this feature (as well as decent coordinate system as well) into max if they really wanted to. But then less people would buy AutoCAD.
mbowers
Actually, it's already built in. While you're drawing a spline, you can press "I" and the window will adjust automatically in the x and y axis and allow you to continue drawing the spline until you close it. Using the scroll wheel while clicking will also zoom you out. Hope this helps.
moodo
i know the "i" shortcut, and sorry @mbowers for the stupid scroll example you are of course right. but in general this are not the same feature how it she gives in rhino for example. the construction tools in rhino are very cool above all the contruction in the 3d viewport. 3dwannab
IF YOU DOWNLOAD: polyspline v3 form scriptspot website it will allow you to type in values LIKE AutoCAD and pan the view the only problem is that you have to hit your curser back in the MAXScript listener to reactivate the command and continue typing the values, small price to pay but gets the job done much more efficiently. I've also left a comment on how to use the script on that webiste i've stated. Hope to be of a help
plastic
One word of warning: The Polyspline script is not malware (I hope), but close to, IMO. It is timebombed, promts you with funny messages as "Happy new year. From this moment you can't use PolySpline v2.1 Visit http://www.scriptattack.com for the additional information." And stops working. On his website the author makes it clear that he wishes to sell the source code of his scripts (to get them working again?). The scripts are encrypted, so you can't see what they are actually doing. Maxscript is very capable (also outside of max - with access to the whole file system), I recommend only running encrypted scripts if you trust the author 100%.
