ronel
how do u draw windoes on ur building facades ? i use boolean to make the hole but looking for a better n easier way .. any ideas? WHAT SOFTWARE DO YOU USE? for autocad, i used object subtract to put whole on a window especially if it is arcaded.... but most of the times i just use slice, faster and precise. for max ... boolean is good too only if you know how to manipulate things, if not it will cause you some troubles. for here i use slice/ quicklslice also, and the windows is just made from max tools windows ( aec add ons)
sima-b
tnx ronel ..i'm using max 8 .. i just saw someone using grids with spline n then extrude it to make a window but i didn't get what she exactly did ... but it seemed easier

Stephen Thomas
When drawing your polyline for the walls, make sure you put a vertex at each side of the window opening. This way when you extrude the object the vertical lines will already be there for you. Then convert to editable poly and either use quickslice or just connect between the two vertical edges to create the top and bottom edges of your windows. Adjust the heights of these edges to the correct level. Then select polys on either side of the window and choose bridge. Gives a much cleaner result than boolean. Peter M. Gruhn
I like the utility of slice, but don't like the geometry it makes.
alrawli
For speed ill use the slice plane tool under editable poly. Using all of this creates nice clean models, with the least amount of geometry. Bolean is ok if once youve completed the operation you use the 'turn to poly' modifier and then clean up from there. To be honest its quicker and more productive to slice the poly than to use bolean.
