fernando-1
I want to export a wire frame created in Viz4 as linework to be imported into a 2d program like photoshop for editing. How do I do that? Thanks
Jason Matthews
Render as a wireframe and save like a regular rendering. In the render dialog box, I believe there is a box that says force wireframe. Make sure it is checked.
mbr
If you want to be able to edit the lines, like regular vectors (such as in Illustrator) you'll need a plugin. At least you do with Max. I know you can do it with Final Toon, that comes with Final Render (as well as saving out swf files). It should be part of the rendering options, but they still haven't added it. Kerry Thompson
Just had exactly the same problem. After a bit of Internet research, I found that later Viz 4 product packaging releases include a plug-in called Vecta3D on a separate CD. This will render out to line work and generate Flash and Illustrator files. It should be in your Viz 4 product package, if not, talk to your dealer about getting a copy. fernando-1
I tried render wireframe, I think it's close to what I want. Is there a way to hide lines rather than the full wireframe? I tried unchecking render hidden but did not do it. Thanks
Jason Matthews
Well, you can actually go into the material editor, under shader basic parameters and check wireframe. This will only affect the individual material. It might work if you do it carefully. Other than that, you guess is as good as mine
tcorbett
Kerry is right. Vecta 3D is the quickest, least expensive way to go, although it is pretty flawed. Do any of the add-on renderers have this ability? Brazil, mental ray, Vray, etc? Just a quick note, Vecta3D is somewhat flawed, and has problems with mirrored objects, printing them inside out. The work around is to either flip the normals, or make your materials 2-sided.
fernando-1
I tried Vecta3D works pretty good, except how do I get it to show shades and shadows. I tried the cartoon shading options but only oulines render. How do I edit the line thiknesses after the objects have been created?
Ken Walton
Here's an example of finalRender's finalToon. The roof and some of the other details weren't present when I did this test but you should get the idea... It took about 3 minutes to set the regular scene up for a render like this. http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Lines_12.jpg It's capable of a lot more as well... Ken Walton
Also - as far as the shading/shadows go - finalToon rocks. That and the line thickness/style is easily setup and modified in the material editor. There are a handful of presets that come with it that will probably achieve the look you're going for. tcorbett
Fernando- I wasn't able to make the shadows with Vecta 3D, but I was able to mock the effect by making a copy of the model with everything colored white, then set one directional light. Finally, I blended the image with the Vecta line image in photoshop to get that effect. A lot of extra steps, but sometimes you have to work with what you've got. Ken Walton
Good work - now that you mention it, I remember having the same issue before I got finalRender and I had Vecta3D and "Illustrate It?" - can't remember the name of the second one. That way seemed to work the best. I love resourcefulness...
fernando-1
Is there a trial version of Final toon? I downloaded the trial version for Illustrate.... but same poor line quality as Vectra3D. Cant seem to get good lineweights to show right.
Ken Walton
Can you post a pic of your results so far - I might be able to help if I can see what's going wrong.
Ken Walton
Actually, you can get an eval version from TurboSquid here: Final Toon Click on the eval button at the top right - I'm not sure of it's limits though. The full plug-in is $495 (finalRender stage1 - which comes with finalToon is like $800) - it might be worth it if you're doing a lot of this kind of work but probably not if it's a one or two-time thing... fernando-1
If I already have Viz 4 and Photoshop 7 does it make any sense to add Final Render? What do I get that I dont already have?
fernando-1
This is the image I'm trying to achieve with Vectra 3D but how do i get the shadows on? http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=BWview.jpg
