Dave Oliver
i calculated my irradiance map, saved it, and told vray to render from the file. but instead it quickly runs through this very dark one and then starts rendering. I created a new test scene and tried doing the same thing, but it worked fine. So i think it must be something in this file. Happened to anyone before? Dave Oliver
i can tell it has something to do with my vray proxies, but i dont know how to fix them without deleting them.
Ricardo Eloy
The dark passes are the interpolation passes being calculated. You have one or (by the screenshot) more materials that use it, and VRay uses IrrMap to calculate them. It's not a problem.
Dave Oliver
thanks...yeah, i thought the dark pass was causing this blotchyness in my image, but after trying it without the interpolation passes, i realize it is blotchy anyway......so new question ;p any idea why this IR map that took forever is rendering out blotchy? i guess it might be too late to correct at this point, but i dont have as good of a grasp on all the vray settings as some people here so i thought you might know. i had interpolation and subdivisions turned up pretty good, and did passes from -3 to -1 thanks again
Ricardo Eloy
It would be helpful seeing all your settings, but at this point maybe -3/-1 is not enough. I mean, it's a low setting, judging by the amount of details you have there, so I'm just guessing.
Dave Oliver
almost everything is default - irr map & QMC. set irr map setting to medium, increase subdivisions to 150 and samples to 75. the size of the whole image is 2000x1500. i have heard you guys talking about computing it at 1/2 size or so. will i get smoother result with a smaller map computed at higher settings? and what does it mean to store a light with the irr map? i thought all light was stored there anyway...
