bobbean
Hi all I am wondering if anyone could tell me why I am unable to open 2 control windows, they are the Material (M) and Render (F10) windows? I am using a legit copy of Max 9 and all other windows open up with no problem. The icons on the toolbar for both highlight and unhighlight as I toggle them on and off! As a relative noob I'm not sure if I have done some key combination to disable them,( I can't image that that is a function) or if I'm looking at a reinstall? Oh and I have tried the reset button too. Any clues? Cheers in advance Bob
Crazy Homeless Guy
did you switch from 2 monitors to one, or reduce your resolution? the windows are there, they are just stuck off the screen. there are a couple of ways to fix it... 1) the easiest way, find your 3dsmax.ini file, and delete it. a new one will be created when you relaunch max, and everything will be on the screen. ...however, you will loose all of your custom settings. if you are using 3dsmax 8 or later, read this link for locating the file. http://area.autodesk.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/954/ 2) find the 3dsmax.ini file, open it in notepad, and make sure the positions of these windows are within the range of the display resolution of your screen. occasionally it is difficult to find the proper spot to change in the 3dsmax.ini example, the numbers indicate the upper left hand position in pixels on your screen. [RenderVFBPosition] Position=94 274 3) someone posted a nifty key combination about 6 months or so ago that allowed you to grab the window, and move it back with your arrow keys. 4) switch to a higher screen resolution, or back to dual monitors if you switched, and move the windows back. 5) someone also posted an app that forced all open windows onto the screen if they are off the screen. this is good if you vpn from a home computer with one monitor into work with 2 monitors. bobbean
Brilliant! That has fixed it, I deleted the .inifile. I had been playing with my dual monitor setup yesterday but reset them back to their original settings, so I didn't think that was the problem. But it was.. thanks so much Bob
