SHORT TITLE FOR SUGGESTION/BUG/ENHANCEMENT REQUEST

----------------------------------------------------------------

Object Management Tool / Scene Explorer

---------------------------------------------------------------

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF YOUR REQUEST

---------------------------------------------------------------

A useful version of the newly included and very disappointing "scene explorer". It should be able to do the following:

--Be available as a non-floating window too (Like the Maya-Outliner)

--Should not use check-boxes to activate certain properties but should work like the layer-window in Photoshop, where you can 'roll' the mouse over multiple layers to activate/hide/etc. them

--Should have real-time-search, i.e. no pressing of the enter key necessary (like iTunes)

--Should highlight object if I select it in the scene

--Should allow modern grouping: Being able to select and change an object within a group without the need to open the group first

--Should allow the content of a group if the group is hidden (What the hell were they thinking when scripting the Scene Explorer?)

--Should allow the creation of folders to organize items

--Should allow to choose visible/invisible/frozen/unfrozen/etc. only

---------------------------------------------------------------

WHY THIS REQUEST IS IMPORTANT TO YOU

---------------------------------------------------------------

Finding and selecting is maybe the most use action in any 3d-package. The scene-explorer was announced in the 2008-version but unfortunately is so cumbersome to use that it slows down the work-flow instead of improving it.

There are free plugins out there that simulate the Maya-Outliner, but honestly, I would like to see LESS tools in Max that can do more instead of using an ok but not great Outliner for some things (groups), the scene-explorer for another thing, then the Light-Lister for another...opening a lot of windows is slow and clutters the screen space.
