leoA4D
Slightly OT. The matter of the salary + 10% caught my attention. In the archviz business, is the salary + % a standard arrangement? Are there other salary packages other than straight hourly or annual? Also, is an annual bonus added on? Leonard
znotlin
Not that I've ever heard of, but I suppose that is one way to incentivize people working faster. Also a recipie for significant competition with your peers to grab the low hanging fruit, and a deterrent to having anyone help you if you have to share what would be your take. Sounds to me like it'd be a difficult way to structure an office and maintain comraderie.
Sawyer
I have worked in an office that had profit sharing. I don't think its that odd. Ours went into a 401k.
znotlin
I didn't read it as profit sharing, which is absolutely reasonable as it's a team goal and everyone's longer term interests are aligned. But in the first page it was discussed that in addition to salary he got 10% of the profit on the jobs he worked. Which sounds like an accounting nightmare, and a recipie for a highly contentious workplace. IMHO. I'd be interested to see how it is implemented. Thunderkor
I'm in Houston and I'd be really happy if someone offered me $40k plus 10%. It sounds like a good deal to me. Oklahoma isn't the greatest place in the world maybe, but it's sure not bad. I've some extended family in the eastern part of the state, and there's some pretty countryside out that way. The people up there are generally very friendly and nice. About the salary + 10% thing, the place I'm at now I get a salary + 20%. Which sounded great, other than the really low starting salary. They promised the 20% would make up for the salary being much lower than what I wanted to get. Unfortunately, the company I at is actually a real estate firm and in order to secure some listings, they very frequently comp the render fee to the developer, which pretty well screws me over. And yes, I *am* looking for another job. Assuming your new place is good, honest people - and I would always assume this from the start, I think the offer they made sounds fantastic, especially considering the extra effort it will take to get you moved over to the US and the fact that said you still need some training up in VRay. Good luck to you and congratulations on the great opportunity, I hope it all goes well for you!
AFK_Matrix
Thanks for the comments guys. Well had lots more emails with the company. They are only a 4 (5 when I join) company so I think doing the 10% thing isn't going to be too much of a head ache as 1 of those 4 doesn't do any of the rendering (Secretary etc) So thats 4 people to manage. As for the competition angle, I only visited for 1 week and met them a couple of times but I did go out to lunch with all of them and they seemed a good bunch. Oh and it was mentioned that on a Friday they hook up the Xbox 360 to the projector and beat hell out of each other on Halo rofl . They have answered all my questions to the best of there ability and have also now agreed to a small relocation fee of around $2700. I have also now a rough idea of my take home pay after taxes. To begin with I will be on $35,000 while I get to know everything this then goes up to $40,000 this will mean for $35,00 I would get around $2700 a month and for $40,000 I would get $3070 a month. I am going to be sitting down this weekend and making a rough budget to see if I can survive lol!! Oh and they are also willing to put some money towards a Green Card. This is all a lottery though as there are 65,000 Visas available and if its like last year then there were 140,000 applicants!! But thanks for your support guys it means a lot to me, perhaps if i get over there I can buy u a beer

I hope you don't have a lot of stuff. Just a moving truck full of goods across a city will cost $500-600 min. I've had family who have relocated from Canada to the US and paid 15-30K for moving costs and that's all by land, no overseas shipping. Hopefully you don't have a lot to move. Erm, wouldnt it be easier to buy stuff all over again for that amount of cash? Guess they had a huge cargo box.... and moved their whole neighbourhood as well

I not sure what you'll have withdrawn out of your check each pay period, but your estimates are a little much (if these are the estimates before the government gets their hands on your money). I guess it all depends on if they deduct Medical, Dental, State Tax, Federal Tax, etc,etc,etc...... If they deduct the typical then at $35K you will take home roughly $2200-$2300 and at $40K you will take home roughly $2500-$2600. I'm just estimating these figures though. AFK_Matrix
Sorry my bad that is the Gross amount. The net would be: $35,000 = $2100 per month $40,000 = $2500 per month
