eatdrinkadam
Anyone who knows Vray. I have a problem with blotch crawlies on flat areas of my render. I cant seem to get rid of them. Here is my vray setting setup: http://qtsample.com/settings_trash.jpg Here is a region sample of my render: http://qtsample.com/vray_sample.mov (9 mb) Thanks so much in advance, for those who can take a moment to help me. Craig Ramsay
I really would not advise you to use photon mapping for your secondary GI bounces, from past experience it really more hassle than its worth. Try using light cache or even brute force and see how you get on.
cromers
I haven't done any animations in Vray yet, but I have noticed the same issue in my stills. I would turn the Sample lookup under advanced options in the Irradiance map to "Density-based (best)". That has solved the issue for me in a few instances. Joseph Petrino
It looks like your not pre-calculating the irradiance map. http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R1/tutorials_imap2.htm You need to do some reading.

Dave Oliver
i may not know what im talking about here, but, i would think that most of your blotches come from recalculating your irradiance map for every frame, since you have that setting on 'single frame' since you are getting noise, it is just in a different place on each frame. i would try 'incremental add to current map' personally, i like getting high quality lighting solutions and am not worried so much about how long it takes, so i use QMC for the second pass. to control the amount of noise in your image in the simplest way, i like to run everything through the QMC sampler, and and adjust the noise threshold on it also if you are getting blotches in reflective materials, try increasing the subdivisions for that material. here are the decently high quality settings i came up with a few posts ago that took my image from blotchy to clear. of course i was not doing an animation so i had it on 'single frame'
eatdrinkadam
Just as a quick recap regarding 'blotchy crawlies' problem i posted about a few weeks ago. I found after some playing around, that adjusting the HSph. subdivisions along with the Interp. samples to a higher value, within the Irradiance Map helped rid my sequence of pesky blotches. I was using single frame map calculation and Quasi-Monte Carlo as my secondary engine. (keep in mind i am doing animation with animated objects, not just fly -through or stills) Ofcourse, these settings is what worked for my render, and may differ depending on what you are trying to accomplish. Just thought i'd post for those of you having trouble with this as well.. Thx
