adamantine
Hello all, I'm trying to render grass using 3 simple grass geometries (with 6 poly each), put in 3 scatter compound objects. However I found out that I can't increase the duplicate value over 65000 (for each of the scatter objects). Is it the maximum limit? With 65000 duplicates, the grass still does not look tight enough. Any ideas? Thank you!
Tim Fairbanks
Just a guess, but 65,000 sounds a lot like a binary numeric limitation: 65,536 is a binary number common to computing, so it wouldn't suprise me if there is a limitation on the number of scatter objects based on some binary mathematical "logic". 3d Studio, all the way back to the old 3d Studio DOS 1&2 has had similar limitations, usually based on binary numerics. Exporting a large number of polys to .3DS format will produce a similar "error". Not that this is an explanation, in any way... TimF
only3d
my best solution to u is just not deal with it and go another way completely. vray-fur or vray disp' (if ur using vray) or 'hair&fur' modifier will give u adequette or even better results. using scatter ull get a heavy model with very long rendering time, and u dont want that. ipxstudios
Try this plug-in if you are manually scattering grass - works pretty good. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/Advanced-Painter
