kmdguy
Greetings everyone. I have run a small animation/multimedia studio since 1995 but took the last 2 years off to focus on several non-animation related software projects. This year I'm back and looking forward to 2008 and ramping up my studio. One of the things I'm doing this month is allocating $50K into Boxx Renderboxx nodes to create a powerful in-house render farm for use by us and for outside clients. As we begin to implement this we're going to want to be able to shake the bugs out of the system, and so I would like to offer an invitation to those people running Cinema4D who would be interested in logging into our farm for some free renders in order to help us work out our web interface, kinks, etc. This can be for hobby projects or a commercial project but obviously since this would be a 'beta' test of the farm, you should exercise deadline caution if you are going to use it for a commercial project until we know we're running smooth. All render projects are to be fully administrated and overseen by a human. We'll be running the absolute latest C4D with all expected plugs, including Vray, with Maxwell coming soon. We're also considering adding either 3DS Max or Maya support at startup as well. The main question is which application has the greater demand initially. We're still about 3 weeks out until delivery but I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself and give people a chance to help us out if interested. So, if you have some projects that you would like us to render for free on our farm in about 3-4 weeks, please feel free to contact me so I can get you on my contact list. Please give me an idea which application you would like to see on our farm next between 3DS or Maya. Ultimately I'll probably have both, but first thing's first. Thanks everyone. chiquito
For me, Im a freelance architect, what works good, is max with vray (max 9 64, vray 1.5) with some plug ins, nothing spectacular. I hope you do well. Ill keep you in mind fot future jobs.
Devin Johnston
DON'T BUY BOXX unless you just like throwing money away!! There is nothing that boxx makes that you can't get cheaper and at the same quality. Each time I've gone to them to get a comparable quote they are always 10-20% higher than everyone else for the exact same hardware. I know they say they test everything before they send out a system but even if that is true is it really worth that much more money? I've been buying products for the last 5 years from this company http://www.xicomputer.com/ and I've never had any problems and they make a quality product. BrianKitts
I agree, BOXX hits the pocket book a little harder, and there service support isn't 24-7 ..... my preference goes to Dell for their support both for a home and office setup. If you are doing it for an office, call em up and establish an account, you'll get great service and bigger price breaks on quantity purchases. There's a few threads on the forums here about BOXX, both pro and con, and although they do put together a good system, they can't compete pricewise on a volume level with other distributors. Thanks for all your hardware advice. Taking a look at a few other options to spend this kind of money, I'm finding Dell can significantly enhance our render farm's horsepower for our budget far more than Boxx can. We're moving forward and will post when our farm is up and ready for testing. Again, anybody using C4D & Vray initially wanting some free render time on our farm during testing, please contact me and I'll be happy to oblige. 3DS Max and Vray will be coming soon behind. Martin Hi there, Our farm is called RenderFriend, and can be found at www.renderfriend.com. We are still a few weeks away from officially opening the doors for all but if you have any questions, or requests for what you not only would like to see, but NEED to see from us, please let me know. We're pretty friendly that way, hence the name Happy Rendering, Dan
