Derek Entesano
Hi all, I am the main(1 of 3) architectural visualiser in a 80+ people architectural firm. Our presentation unit is expanding as is the desire for our services. In order for us to keep progressing I want to know of all the new trends, innovations etc that can keep us competitive. I am looking to do a study tour this year to Europe or US to hopefully visit some other architectural and rendering firms but dont know where to start. What are the main conferences I should consider and if I am in your part of the world is there anyone that would mind a visit and chinwag about how workflow, new techniques, services provided etc. Thanks Derek Entesano
Jeff Mottle
To my knowledge there are only a few conferences that specifically cater to architectural visualization: http://dmvc.vismasters.com (May 2008 - Dates to be Announced Shortly) http://www.asai.org (September 2008) http://www.imagina.mc (Jan 30 - Feb 1, 2008) Visualization content is limited this year
Derek Entesano
Thanks Jeff. Thats what I needed. Over here in Oz there seems to be a lot of intergrating into multimedia and use of 1st person walkthrough simulations which are quite popular. Anyone have a favourite of the above mentioned conferences?
Jeff Mottle
I forgot to mention Mundos Digitales as well http://www.mundosdigitales.org/ They had a great arch viz program last year.
Nils Norgren
If you are going to be coming through Boston on your Arch Vis tour, feel free to contact me and I can arrange a tour of our studio (Neoscape), same applies to our NYC location. Cheers, -Nils
EddieLeon
Anyone have a favourite of the above mentioned conferences? The only one I have been able to go to is DMVC. It is excellent. You will get a lot of insight into the industry and it's a great networking event. Also, it's always scheduled alongside SIGGRAPH which is an excellent Convention and Expo. Jeff, Have the dates for this year been set yet? I need to book a nice hotel before they all fill up
Ernest Burden III
The only one I have been able to go to is DMVC. It is excellent...it's always scheduled alongside SIGGRAPH I need to book a nice hotel before they all fill up 'Always' is such a tough word. I can stop singing "California Sun" now and switch back to "California Dreamin'". This time it'll be "East Coast girls are hip, I really dig those styles they wear" as opposed to "the West Coast has the sunshine and the girls all get so tanned"
BrianKitts
Ernest..... if we are lucky enough to get you to present again this year for DMVC (I wasn't in boston for 2006)....please leave your spandex jumpsuit at home.....
Jeff Mottle
Jeff, Have the dates for this year been set yet? I need to book a nice hotel before they all fill up We will be doing this year's conference just before the start of the AIA conference in Boston this May. (http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/163-vismasters-dmvc-2008-boston/) The dates will likely be May 12/13, but that is not 100% confirmed yet.

BrianKitts
The Ramones, Mamas & Papas and Beach Boys suggests spandex? oops... I'm a product of the 80's my mind went straight to David Lee Roth ... sorry, didn't mean to throw the thread OT! out of curiousity, how is the language barrier at the european conventions, I'm assuming language changes by venue? EddieLeon
DMVC is going to be at AIA Bostson? That's awesome! BKittsARC, you mean Ernest is having LSD flashbacks and putting daisies in his ears. I'm wearing my tie-dye t-shirt and Listening to Simon & Garfunkel By the way, most Europeans speak English so you should be fine at Imagina or Mundos Digitales. Derek Entesano
OK guys this is great info. I think DMVC looks like what I am searching for. Looking forward to seeing its composition. As for it being scheduled along side the AIA conference, is there anything scheduled in its program that is very useful for a visualiser. I am trained in architecture but talks on sustainability and the like aren't of any direct benefit. It gives me something to go and talk to the managing director about. Nils I will definitely take you up on that offer, lunch is my shout or should I say my work's:D What is the weather like in Boston that time of year? Dont know what to compare it to as at the moment I could be sitting here in shorts, a singlet and thongs(flat pieces of rubber you wear on your feet for those that are getting bad visuals due to the language difference:p )
