rickkremer
Hi folks. I have a quick questions for those rendering gurus. I am trying to do a interior redndering of an auditorium with people. I'm looking for a place to purchase people to fill it up. they do not have to be realistic but just convey to the owner how it would look filled up. FYI, this will be used for a architectural still rendering. Any suggestions? I'm using Max 2008 and Photoshop for touchups. Here's some images of what I got so far. Any suggestions welcomed. BrianKitts
I'm normally not a fan of RPC's but in your scenario since you don't appear to be using global illumination, Archivisions seated people library would serve you pretty well. http://www.archvision.com/ContentDetails.cfm?BundleID=23200&Category=1&Dimension=3&LocationID=3 that way you wouldn't have to comp them in at different angles for all your cameras. The other option would be to go with 3D people from someone like axyz Design..... but they don't have as many preposed seated people so you would have to get the rigged characters and pose them yourself if you are looking for more than the provided content
FlyinHawaiian
Or, if you're not shooting for the super-photo-real, "ohmygosh it looks just like a picture!" look, you could go with people cutouts. (Definitely not ragging on the realists -I'm actually one myself, but if you're not going to total realism, you might as well make it look intentional. -One way would be to do silhouette people)
rickkremer
Joel and Brian, Thanks guys for the input. Joel, I went to your website WOW what imagery. As for the sillhouette people do you have a rendered example?? Thanks, Rick
FlyinHawaiian
Thanks Rick, glad you like the work. I can't think of any off-hand, but I do remember seeing them done before (architects seem to do it all of the time. In fact, I think sketchup has a number of 3d billboard people built in). You could even put the billboard people into the 3d scene and have it cast shadows automatically for you. It seems that a google search for "silhouette people" brings up a lot of pre-made options. Here's a typical example of how to use them: http://kapitza.com/shop/fonts/victoria-park If there's any advice I could give you for the image though, it would be to use some GI. That alone would really help it. Aloha, Joel
ipxstudios
I would find some stock photos of crowds (in the right lighting) - cut out what you need and photoshop in.
Dave Buchhofer
The other option would be to go with 3D people from someone like axyz Design..... but they don't have as many preposed seated people so you would have to get the rigged characters and pose them yourself if you are looking for more than the provided content On the plus side, the AXYZ textures are actually pretty decent, so you can get a little extra variation by making multiple color clothing versions, and also if you're mostly looking from the views posted there, you can strategically 'sink' some standing folk in the mix also. i'm a big fan of the 3d folks at the moment for the occasions where you can keep them far enough out of the camera focus point. in the long past, and for obscenely large crowds, i've had luck by taking billboard images of said 3d people (and additional manually made billboards of rpcs and cutouts) and used a particle rig (or forest pro, etc) to place them in the seats and randomize them.
