File linking

I am having some probs with file linking in max/autocad 2007...

 

the max file has materials attached to a linked dwg and I wish to replace 'that file' with a different cad model. Simple right! but for some reason I loose all of my uvw's and assinged mats.

 

Sometimes it works though lol , what could be the prob?

make sure you have a preset that has the options for retaining materials selected when you initially attach your dwg.

 

this got all buggered up when we jumped versions into max9. If you miss that initial attachment you lose the materials upon reload even if you select keep materials upon reload in the advanced options.

 

so if you have some older files they may have been set properly from an older max, or you did have the preset which would explain why sometimes it works ans sometimes it doesn't.
