nVidia Quadro or ATI FireGl

Recommended Posts

Finally i made the decisions for my new pc:

Dell Precision T7400, 8GB Ram, Xeon E5420...

Only thing left ist the grafic card. i do mainly 3dmax+Vray for Archviz,

projects with tons of polys...

1.) nVidia Quadro FX 1700 512 MB

2.) nVidia QuadroFX 4600 756MB (addition charge to FX 1700 appr. 700 Euro)

3.) ATI Fire GL V7350 1GB (addition charge to FX 1700 appr. 850 Euro)

thx

I've got visually comparable viewport speeds with my dual quads with quadro 1700's in them vs my dual dual with 8800 GTX in it, and the 8800GT is very much in the same league as the GTX for far cheaper than the rest of the pack.

the 1700 is good, the 8800 is good, I dont have experience of the 4600, but its one of the faster of the previous generation cards. they should all (imho) perform comparably.

the 3700 was just announced/released, so if you can get that, its probably the fastest of the bunch. but its still as yet hard to find.

@AQLynn

made the decision for the precision instead of Dell XPS, because the XPS you can only order with Vista 32bit.

I need a 64 bit Syst. to get use out of 8Gig ram, and want a xp 64 bit OS.

This is only supported by the Precisions.

@Dave

thanks for your recommendations.

I would go for a 8800 gt or gtx without any arguing.

But i want a certif. syst. this time, with support etc. therefore Dell.

And dell only gives you the choise: XPS with GF-Cards and 32 bit Syst

or Precision with open-gl cards with 64 bit Syst.

Another Probl. with XPS, it`s only shipped with max. 4Gig Ram.

My answer is:

4) none of the above.

I would go with a 8800GT. If my vendor didn't offer that as an option, then I would find another vendor. I find Quadro cards to be a insane waste of money - they offer up almost a GB of RAM for what exactly? 3D apps don't need that much RAM in their videocards - that is something that would come in more handy for gaming. Waste of money.
