nelpiper
Hi folks. I have onyxtree app but I don't have treestorm. When I want a model, I take whatever it is from the onyx library and I import it as a .obj file. When I open up the model in MAX, it cames as several different parts(leaves, trunk, etc). It is a good thing because I can apply textures to those. Now, when I want to make the model into a vrayproxy, that's when problem starts. I right click and choose vray mesh export. When the dialog box comes up and I chose to save as a single file, vray sugglest a name for the proxy that is only one of the components of the model (vrayproxy_trunk for example). So, whenever I try to create more instances of the proxy, the textures are all the same as the trunk. The leaves had their own texture but the proxy makes everything has only a single texture. Does anyone know what is the right way to import a model from onyx? Is a .obj the best one? Thanks.
BrianKitts
import as a .3DS that way your tree will come in as one object separated by material ID's and a multi-subobject material applied to it for each part of the tree. you could still do an OBJ file for import, just make sure you attach all your pieces into one mesh object before you convert it to a vrayProxy. TreeStorm is the best way to go, but in it's absence, 3DS would be my pref.
Chad Warner
You can either export them as multiple files, or use the edit mesh then "attach" all the objects back together as one object prior to making the Vraymesh.
ipxstudios
when you export as a vray mesh it becomes one object. Just use the eyedropper tool from the material editor to see the materials again. You may have to assign the entire multi-sub object to each proxy again. Try using instances. You can copy the multi-sub object in the material editor and change colors to assign to vray proxies too.
