Im curious where each of you learned to do CG Architectural Vis... if you went to college for Architecture, or art, or computer science, or you just learned it on your own time... do you have a bachelors or a masters.... ect.. ect.. I am currently 1/2 way thru our Masters program in Architectural Visualization, and i have a BS in archtectural engineering... also... have any of you experimented with game engine technology, as alot of the technology we are using crosses over into games development... we have been testing and researching this idea in our department and was wondering if anyone else has put time into it... thanks for any replies shane
Crazy Homeless Guy
Im curious where each of you learned to do CG Architectural Vis... if you went to college for Architecture, or art, or computer science, or you just learned it on your own time... do you have a bachelors or a masters.... ect.. ect.. I can't speak for everyone here or every firm here, ....but typically the people we hire have formal architecture training, a BS is arch is ideal. Lots of 3d artists are competent to produce building illustrations, but typically architectural firms need their visualization people to have the ability to comprehend design concepts, identify design problems, and solve any problems that arise with design issues when the lead designer is not available without needing their hand held through the process. Comprehending the design concept is different than being able to read construction drawings. ...and being able to solve problems that arise may be simply having the competency to know who to ask or address a problem with. I should also mention that I work in a firm. People who work for boutiques will not be required to deal with the same problems. ...at leas tno on a regular basis. You should check out what this company has been doing with game technology. http://www.archengine.org/
IceAged
Well I started off in the workshop at college building wood and metal sculptures. It was a very experimental time, and at odds with my interest in computers, but the two naturally came together when I discovered CGI modelling. I would say my arch viz knowlege is about 50% theory/training and 50% from experimenting/experience. Ideally you should combine the two.
