kwi
I assume these artifacts or whatever they are are caused by my materials since they disappear when I render a mat override render. This is MAX 7, mentalray with a Gig of RAM on Win2K (I know I'm old). Can some one shine some light on this?
alrawli
Black buckets in MR are a memory issue i think, are you using large files for the textures? Probably get more responces in the MR forum.
robkar97
That was a mild case, you should have seen my renderings :-) Just as mentioned, this is a memory issue. Try using Backburner without the visual framebuffer, that solved things for me. Robert
r_kh_ng
Hello, How do you turn off the visual framebuffer? I'm rendering out on a farm...with this cause any issues? Thanks in advance! Rob
robkar97
Hmmm... if you're doing the rendering on a farm, I'm not sure if the visual framebuffer should be an issue. When you submit the render job there is a checkbox called [ ] Rendered Frame Window (that's the same thing as Visual Framebuffer) in the *job submission* dialogue (DON'T use the one in the Render Scene window - this only applies to renderings done locally, not net renderings). I tend to do all hi-res rendering with net rendering when using mental ray, it seems to work nicely. Cheers Robert
r_kh_ng
Thanks very much for your quick reply robert! I'll see how that comes along...still working on stopping the flickering with MR animation. Any tips? I am using VIZ2007 MR and set a FG map...using a photon map seem to cause flickering. Thanks again, Rob
kwi
I have not used farm rendering. Thanks to all who replied to this post. My problem was I had too many programs running at the same time. I closed the other programs and the artifacts were gone. Memory couldn't handle all those programs. Duh! robkar97
About the flickering, you might try to turn on [ ] Jitter and [ ] Lock samples under Render Scene > Rendered tab... I think you might find some threads about flickering if you try some different searches in this forum... I'm not an expert :-) Robert
r_kh_ng
Thanks guys. Glad to hear you sorted it out KWI. I'm still having issues with MR animation even with the FGM locked...sigh...such a pain! Cheers, Rob
