judex
Hi folks Just spotted this thread. The version numbering gets confusing for 3D World because the magazine goes on sale in the UK first (which is where we're based), then gets shipped overseas. At any point, there can be three separate issues on sale in stores around the world, depending on how long it takes to ship to the country in which you live. Our website (http://www.3dworldmag.com) lists the issue currently on sale in the UK. As a rule of thumb, it takes an issue 3-4 weeks to reach the US or Canada after it goes on sale in the UK. However, if you've missed the issue you want, you can buy single copies online here: http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/store/displayitem.asp?sid=418&id=8991&custid=06@02@200836014@612770807 The visualisation issue is 101: the one with MIR's image of the 'gateway building' at Ras al-Khaimah on the cover and the headline 'Inside architecture' Jim Thacker Editor, 3D World
jophus14
I searched for the magazine today, but all I found was issue 99 I guess I'll have to wait a few more months to check it out.

jhop
ok so its a bit late and I missed the issue, but I did give it a quick read at one stage to flick through.... Working smarter Trond Greve Andersen of cover artists MIR reveals five of his studio‘s favourite time-saving technical tricks now, it had a section that you could render an image by block colouu or layer colour so you could then take it into photoshop and it would help by selecting an area on the actual render, can someone explain how to do this? cheers
Tommy Burns
Hi I have just used this method on my last project and it worked a treat. What I did was put a none material in mat overide and rendered the scene. This gave me a scene of just colours which where easy to select in photoshop to make masks/channels. Say you had a building and it was a night scene or something. When you render it you realize that you would like more light in your windows or the road needs to be brighter or something like that. If you bring your "none" material rendering into photoshop and add it as a layer it is simple to make selections of specific areas and change these. Also handy for masking if you save your selection as a channel. I would recommend you only use ambient lighting when makeing the "none" scene and no FG or photons. I am sure there is lots of other uses for this method maybe someone would like to share what they use it for but it has saved me a lot of time already. Hope this helps and you get what I mean Tommy

Koper
so you could then take it into photoshop and it would help by selecting an area on the actual render, can someone explain how to do this? cheers [/i] search cga or google for VrayWirecolor that is if you use vray no need to render again, its data that is thrown away with each render, all you need to do is tell vray/max, that you want it. You can do so through the rendel elements tab
WAcky
It just talks about the method. There are no instructions so it's not really worth scanning or paying $25AUD for it. You've already got more info in this thread than the arcticle gives out Yeah exactly what I mean, thats it!
