cullen
I am having a problem getting rounded edges on a compound object. I have tried modeling this shape several different ways. I have taken nurb curves and applied boolens to them to get the shape I needed. So I have two different surfaces. One is a wall that goes around the object and the second is a plate over the top. Since these surfaces were converted for the boolean to work, I could not fillet them. So now I am stuck with both objects in the shape that I want but I have a sharp edge instead of a rounded one. If any one has any ideas, it would be a great help!!! ....here is a sample picture. Thank you for your help. cullen
tcorbett
You might want to try taking that element with the sharp edges, converting it to a mesh, then applying the Mesh Smooth modifier. It's not the most elegant solution, and you may have to play with your mesh subdivisions, but you should be able to get the job done.
cullen
I actually tried using a mesh smoother. I am wondering if it's because these are are surfaces instead or a solid object. When I applied the mesh smoother, it would only make the face more smooth, it had no affect on the edges. Should I try to remodel the body as more of a solid? tcorbett
if it is a solid object (edges are connected) and the edges are still there, then your iterations are probably set to 0. Under Subdivision Amount, set your iterations to 1 or 2. This will create a curve between the midpoints of the adjacent segments. Here's an example: Just a standard box, with 4 sections in each direction. Now with the MeshSmooth modifier... (Method: NURMS, Iterations: 2, Smoothness: 1.0) {img]http://www.cgarchitect.com/forum/filepush.asp?file=Box2.JPG{/img] Then you may want to apply the Optimize modifier to reduce your overall polygon count. Of course, this works pretty easily with a box - your shape is more complex, and will probably require a little more experimentation. Good luck!
