Night time exterior

What are peoples methods for creating nightime exterior/interior scenes using Max2008 and Mental Ray, p/graphic exposure etc.

 

For some reason i am having extreme difficulty setting up a convincing night shot, so i just thought it might be an idea to gather other peoples thoughts and methods.

for most of my night interior scenes, i would use both GI anf FG with a mixture of photometric and IES lights. for max2008, i would use the mr interior photographic exposure control, or whatever the description is. you then have to adjust the exposure levels for the desired mood
