Cesar
Hello to everyone. I´m consider buying a new rendering machine, my first option is a mac pro, my problem is, that i work with 3ds max 2008 and vray 1.5, i know both softwares works very well inside boot camp (i already tested in may macbook pro), but my preocupation is because i want to install at least 8gb of ram, in the new machine, and i understand that i can install only 32bit aplication in boot camp, so, in this machine 3ds max and vray will only recognice 3gb? because i have to work ith very complex scenes, and 3gb is insuficient for my work. I have to consider another system? Thanks for your support
AJLynn
Actually, Apple just started shipping a driver package for the Mac Pro to run 64-bit Vista. No word on whether this will be limited to a new Mac Pro with Vista 64 or whether it's a pilot program that will be expanded to other Macs and maybe even XP 64. Crazy Homeless Guy
that is nice. i havce been using win64 for about the last year, and i have nothing but good things to say about it, even with the occasional driver hiccup. ....i don't know how win32 performed on mac, but on windows, there was the damn memory limitation. with win64, the amount of ram it can access is set high enough where it won't be an issue for another 10 years. the only complaint i have is that the renderfarm is 32bit, so i am constantly crashing render engines while distributing or backburner rendering. oluv
i also thought of purchasing a mac pro as my next computer to use it as a rendering machine running windows with bootcamp. the basic configuration is quite cheap, and i can upgrade it easily to my needs. i haven't found any 8-core windows machine of a comparable price. or does anyone know of a custom built solution? Cesar
Thanks for your replies. Its great to heard that news about the boot camp 64bits, i will contact apple to confirm this information. Like Oluv say, i also check the system with same specifications in several companies, and apple has one of the most afordable prices, considering the quality of the brand, and the leopard is great, i can wait to try the cinema 4d and the vray for osx, so i can made the definitive swicht to a mac enviroment, even for rendering!! oluv
does anyone know of an apple forum where you can ask questions about windows on mac, without being bashed. most of the apple-guys are crazy about their OS, but i don't care much. most of my software is windows-based, so if i can buy a power mac with 8 cores and use it as rendering-station under windows, why not? but i would still like to know if there are some limitations running windows with bootcamp. what if i would like to put in a 8800gtx instead of the crappy hd2600, or even two 8800gtx with SLI. could this be a problem? i heard that only the available graphic-cards from apple work with the mac pro, because for other ones there are no drivers. but what about windows? AJLynn
Have you tried discussions.apple.com? They have a section for Bootcamp discussions. WRT the video cards, I don't know whether the Mac Pro supports SLI but you can use any video card you want in Windows - but if you don't use the Mac version of the card you won't be able to use it in MacOS. Why not just go with the 8800GT that's an option with the Mac? Its speed is almost indistinguishable from the GTX and it will run on both OSes.
